What Entertainment Is Wichita Missing? My Ideas for the Air Capital!

By Trace Thompkins | Trace The Rater

DING DING DING! It's Trace The Rater time! 🎡😂

Today, we're doing something a little different!

Instead of reviewing a television show, movie, video game, or album, I'm talking about something much closer to home: Wichita, Kansas!

I recently came across an Instagram reel from Wichita Life asking what Wichita is missing.

And BOY, did that get me thinking! 😂

I left a comment suggesting some new entertainment attractions while also mentioning places we can already enjoy.

Now, let's expand on those thoughts!

1. Could Wichita Use Something Like AREA15? 🎢

Watch my short take on Wichita entertainment. Open video

When I think about entertainment attractions outside Wichita, one place that comes to mind is AREA15 in Las Vegas.

Imagine a destination with immersive experiences, interactive art, themed attractions, and unusual rides!

Wouldn't it be interesting if Wichita had something similar?

I'm not saying we need to copy Las Vegas exactly. Wichita has its own identity, after all!

But a Wichita-inspired immersive entertainment complex could be exciting.

I'm imagining interactive technology, visual effects, creative environments, and attractions that appeal to teenagers, college students, families, and adults.

Maybe even a ride with a creative theme, similar to something you'd experience at a major destination attraction!

And since Wichita is the Air Capital of the World, an aviation-themed immersive experience could be especially fitting.

2. Let's Appreciate the Entertainment We Already Have! 🎮

HEADS UP! Just because I want more entertainment doesn't mean Wichita has nothing to offer!

For example, we have Round1 at Towne East Square, where people can enjoy arcade games, bowling, karaoke, and other activities.

There's also Dave & Buster's, another place where people can eat, play games, and hang out.

And let's not forget The Arcade, which offers a collection of retro video games and pinball machines!

These places are especially interesting to me because video games are one of the entertainment categories I cover under Trace The Rater.

Then there's the movie theater experience.

We already have AMC Northrock 14, along with other local cinema options. Watching movies on the big screen is still a great way to enjoy entertainment!

So yes, Wichita has plenty of existing options worth recognizing.

3. What About Restaurants? 🍗🍰

Now we're getting into another category!

FOOD!

Wichita recently welcomed The Cheesecake Factory at Bradley Fair and Dave's Hot Chicken on the east side.

I mentioned both in my Instagram comment because I think dining can complement an entertainment outing.

Imagine hanging out at an arcade, watching a movie, and then grabbing something to eat!

That's a pretty fun day if you ask me!

But there's something else worth mentioning.

We shouldn't overlook Wichita's locally owned restaurants simply because national chains are arriving.

Both local establishments and national brands can contribute to Wichita's dining scene.

4. Wichita Is Already Making Progress! 🌻

One example is Exploration Place.

The museum offers interactive science exhibits, immersive films, and educational experiences.

Its Adventure Playscape opened in March 2026, adding a large outdoor attraction featuring multiple play zones.

That's evidence that Wichita isn't standing still!

Personally, I would love to see more projects combining entertainment, education, art, and technology.

And if new attractions are developed, affordability, accessibility, and transportation should be part of the discussion.

Not everyone drives, and not everyone can afford expensive attractions.

Entertainment should be something more people can participate in!

5. So, What Would I Really Like to See?

My biggest wish is an entertainment destination that combines several experiences in one place.

Something featuring interactive exhibits, creative themed rides, games, and spaces for people to socialize.

It wouldn't need to compete directly with Las Vegas or Orlando.

It could be something uniquely Wichita!

Of course, new attractions require money, planning, and enough customer demand to stay in business.

So this is a personal wish list, not an announcement that anything is being developed.

Final Thoughts

I don't believe Wichita is completely lacking in entertainment.

We already have some enjoyable places, and we've seen new businesses and attractions arrive.

But there's always room for more creativity!

Whether it's immersive entertainment, new rides, better social spaces, or supporting what already exists, I think the conversation itself is worth having.

And that's why I wanted this to be my first local-subject topic under Trace The Rater!

Now it's your turn!

What entertainment attraction would YOU like to see in Wichita?

Would you prefer a massive immersive entertainment complex, a themed ride, more arcades, or something completely different?

Let me know!

DING DING DING! That's a wrap! 🔔
